Used primarily for aromatherapy, Clove oil possesses medicinal as well as therapeutic properties.  Clove oil has a chemical composition of eugenol, eugenol acetate, iso-eugenol and caryophyllene. 

 

From colorless to pale yellow color, clove oil has strong spicy smell. The evergreen tree has nail shaped flowers with bright green leaves. Drawing its name from Latin word “Clauvus” the oil is extracted through a process of water distillation from the leaf, stem and buds.

 

Belonging to the Myrtaceae family, the oil is extracted from Eugenia caryophyllata (also known as Syzygium aromaticum. Growing to a height of above 10 mts, the oil draws its origin from Malacca an Indonesian island.

 

Being a potent oil, it should be used with great care. As it blends well with many substances like lavender, basil, cinnamon etc it is used as blended massage oil to cure diarrhea, bronchitis, arthritis etc.
