Clary Sage oil is derived from the Sclarea salvea species which grows to a height of 1 meter with small white/ blue flowers and large hairy leaves. The plant is also known as clary, clary wort, clear eye, muscatel sage, see bright and eye bright. It belongs to the Labiatae family

 

Having an origin of southern Europe, the Clary Sage oil is clear to pale yellow in color. Extracted by a process of steam distillation Clary Sage oil has a sweet nutty fragrance. Drawing its name from the Latin word ‘Claris’ which means clear, the oil has a chemical composition of linalool, a-terpineol, geraniol, neryl acetate, linalyl acetate, caryophyllene, sclareol and germacrene D.

 

Used particularly to calm the nervous system, Clary sage oil has been effective in providing relief in a host of female complaints.
