Bay Essential Oil

Pimenta racemosa

 

The Bay tree also known by other names such as pimenta racemosa, pimento acris and bay rum tree grows up to 9-10 meters in length. The Leaves from this tree are subjected to a process called steam distillation and bay oil is extracted as a result.  The oil so obtained is yellow in color and carries with it an aromatic fragrance.

Morocco, Spain and West Indies are all rich sources of this oil.

Bay oil has high commercial value and is a very popular constituent of aromatherapy largely because of its medicinal properties. Bay oil also blends well with other essential oils such as lavender, eucalyptus, rosemary, coriander, etc.
