Santalum austrocaledonicum

 

Sandalwood Vanuatu essential oil is extracted from plant species Santalum austrocaledonicum. Belonging to family Santalaceae the plant species grows up to a height of 5-12 mtrs. The plant is a small tree with small green leaves and grey bark and is semi parasitic as their roots feed on the sap of host plant.

The oil which bears a sweet, spicy, woody, leathery aroma is extracted from the heartwood of the tree through a process of steam distillation. The oil which used as a substitute for Indian Sandalwood in the perfumery industry draws its origin from South Pacific Island Nation of Vanuatu.
